There are two main types of color combinations:
(1) combining similar tones to create a harmonious effect, and
(2) creating color differences through clashing hues. Here are some examples of color combinations:
1. Same-tone combinations result in a unified impression of the color, even if the hues are not the same.
2. Same-tone combinations also create a harmonious look, even if the hues differ.
3. Highlighting a color in the series by pairing it with complementary colors emphasizes the important features.
4. Unnatural combinations, such as lowering the brightness of warm colors and increasing the brightness of cool colors create contrast.
5. Strong contrasts can be achieved through two or three-color combinations using high-purity colors with black, white or vibrant hues.
6. Floating color combinations are created by repeating two or more colors in a specific pattern, creating a harmonious visual effect.
For practical combinations:
1. Gender-specific colors use blue for men and red for women. Dark colors are preferred for men while lighter and brighter colors are preferred for women.
Hope, future, happiness, purity, knowledge, authority, childlike, alert, concentration, bright, healthy, humorous, generous, prosperous, informal.
2. Age-specific colors will depend on the age of the target audience. Popular choices for children are bright and colorful tones, while older people may prefer darker, deeper hues.
3. Seasonal combinations reflect the colors and changes of each season. Spring requires brighter and softer colors, summer calls for high-purity warm or cool colors, autumn associates with fallen leaves, and winter uses more cold or gray shades.
4. Temperature-specific colors highlight warmth or cold with warm or cool colors respectively. Warm colors are often recognized more easily while cool colors may shrink the visual effect.
5. The weightiness of a color varies depending upon its tone. Black is the heaviest, similar shades also add weight, while white creates a lighter feel. Multiple dark shades create a heavy look while multiple light shades convey softness and delicacy.
