For years, the fashion industry has been heavily criticized for its environmental impact. Not only is the fast fashion industry causing alarming pollution, but the leather manufacturing industry has also been seen as one of the main sources of pollution and waste. Making leather requires a large amount of water and the waste water and air produced during the production process have significant negative impacts on the environment.
Sustainability has always been a top priority for consumer brands, and the sustainability of product materials has become paramount. Eco-friendly products that embody concepts such as ocean waste recycling, recycled plastics, and recyclable cotton have garnered strong support from environmentally conscious consumers.
As a result, finding alternative materials for production and manufacturing to achieve ecological transformation has become an irresistible trend. Although many new materials, such as "plant-based leather," face challenges in terms of technology and material costs, and their performance still requires further optimization, it is believed that these new environmentally friendly materials will eventually become the common choice of the fashion industry.
When that day comes, would you choose plant-based leather or animal leather?
